TCC End of the Year and final monthly competition

posted Oct 20, 2015, 5:18 PM by Geoff Faulkner

Hi shutterbugs,
We had some nice images last month and a judge all the way from Bakersfield. It turns out that Herb Spencer has a project that he is working on of photos from Highway 33 that goes from Bakersfield to the Banta Inn where he has a great love of the hamburgers, so his trip had two purposes. Aaron and Cash tied for Print of the Month. Hopefully both will appear in The Tracy Press.
We have to change the date of our next meeting so mark your calendar. It turns out that Wednesday November 11th is Veterans Day and the Grand is closed. We will meet the day before, Tuesday November 10 at the usual time and place. It is the last competition of the year so a couple of new rules will be featured. First, all of the rotating categories are open; Nature, Travel and Journalism. In addition, you may enter one "oldie but goodie" from previous years.
In December we will have our End of Year Competition where you can enter your best 2015 photos again. Competition Chair Rebekah will pick an all star cast of several judges to pick the the best of several categories. The winners will be announced at our year end party in January.
See you next month (on Tuesday).   Mickey McGuire

August meeting - Saturday in the park

posted Jul 31, 2015, 4:10 PM by Geoff Faulkner   [ updated Jul 31, 2015, 4:11 PM ]

TCC'rs,

Wednesday August 12 at 7:00 pm at the Grand is our next meeting. The theme is "Panorama" and the rotating category is "Journalism". Tomorrow a contingent of the TCC will be at Lincoln Park along with lots of other artists between 10:00 and 2:00. You could stop by and help at the table or just come by and say hello.

Richard Beebe has several classes offered this next semester. Among them are Beginning Digital Photography, Intermediate, and Advanced, and several offerings on different dates of Photo Studio Drop-In. If you are like me, you have probably heard from many friends about wanting to learn how to operate their new cameras. Here's how! The first class starts in October.

We have one more Art Walk at the Grand scheduled for Friday August 14. If you have any images that you would like to have displayed, bring them to the next meeting. Make sure you put your name on the back.

A recent edition of Imaging Resource has an extended discussion of yet another new type of camera. It's just a lens and sensor with a remote connection to your smart phone. Much of the electronics is an ap on your phone and the view screen is your phone. There is even a bracket so you can combine the two. It seems ideal for wildlife photography or street photography.

I owe a real debt of gratitude to Cash, Tiffany, Richard and others that have stepped up to cover the Saturday and Friday events since I'm going to miss both of the next two. But I will see you August 12 for the meeting. In the mean time, see if you can figure out how your camera makes panoramas. Mickey McGuire

Congratulations to Lisa Martinez!

2011 Awards Dinner

posted Jan 15, 2012, 10:20 AM by Geoff Faulkner

We had a great dinner and fun time at the awards dinner last night. We were missing our competition leader, however, as he thought that going to a niners game was a better use of his time. :)

All photos from the event are posted in the Facebook gallery. I hope to see everyone in February!

Award Dinner

posted Dec 21, 2011, 11:11 PM by Geoff Faulkner

TCC'rs,
Laura Chellew, our treasurer has been busy at work looking for a place
to hold our end-of-year party. She has found several, some on the expensive
side, and others that have other drawbacks. The best of the group is Four
Corners Restaurant near Jefferson School. I have eaten there dozens of
times since it is the closest to my house. They have a separate meeting
room that is large enough for our group and a great meal offering. For $20
you have a choice of chicken, Salmon or tri tip.
The date of the party is January 14th so put it on your calendar.
After dinner, awards will be handed out for the best of the year images in
different categories. Laura will be sending out an invitatiion with all the
details. She will ask you to send a check to reserve a spot so we can pay
ahead of time.
If you received a copy of the Arts Education Catalog from the Grand
Theater you will notice that Both Richard Bebee's and Sheila Birkner's
classes are listed. We should all do what we can to make these classes a
success by taking them ourselves or mentioning them to our friends.
Mick

Note from Mickey

TCC Club,

No one has expressed interest in our top three positions and all three have agreed to continue so I will be President, Laura Chellew will be Treasurer, and Kevin Suttle will continue as the Competition Chair. Geoff Faulkner will be our Web Master. Since Sheila Birkner will teach our two Photoshop / Photoshop Elements classes next year we'll call her our Education Chair.

Hopefully, in the future, others may wish to take one of these positions. Many hands make for light work. Fortunately, the burden is not so great so the the current Exec Board is happy to continue. I don't intend, however, to be like "Papa Doc" Duvailier of Haiti who declared himself to be "President for Life".

We will be sponsoring two classes next year on Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. If you have one of those you may want to go to the Adobe.com  page and look for the download section to update your "Photo Raw" editor. If you don't own one, P/Elements is on sale this month at Costco. It has Photo Raw attached.

In the meantime I continue working on finalizing our relationship with the Grand by purchasing insurance. Geoff will be asking you for preferences about topics next year. Kevin will be working on our year-end competition and Laura will be searching for a good location for our Christmas / New Years party and award ceremony. If you have any suggestions pass them along to the folks above or send them to me and I'll pass them on.

Finally, I still have tickets to the Breakfast Lions Crab Feed December 10 at $35 a plate. It's one of the highlights of Tracy's social season!
