What to expect at a Tracy Camera Club meeting

A Typical Meeting

6:00 - 7:00 PM  Education and social hour

During this time we come up with a topic to explore and dive in during this hour. We might have a photo workshop and encourage members to bring a camera and practice photographing something. A club member or a guest speaker might be a presenter for a specific topic. We often discuss ways to improve our photography editing by using computer software like Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.  We also try to leave a little social time available during this hour so that members can catch up with each other.

7:00 - 7:30 PM Club business

During this time the president will review any club business, make any announcements, and follow up on anything that needs input from the members. We:

• Review any past field trips and any upcoming plans for trips or group events 

• Review the club education available at the Grand Theatre

• Review the club finances

• Ask for a brief introduction from any visitors and new members

• Congratulate any members who have graduated to a new photographer class

• Introduce the judge for the evening

7:30 - 9:00 PM Review the photo entries, scores, and comments by the judge

During this time we turn out the lights and focus in on the photographs! We start with the Beginner class photos, reading the critiques from the judge and reviewing each photo. We announce the photographer and clap congratulations for photos that earn a 9 or 10 score from the judge. After Beginner group, we move to the A group, and then finally the AA group. AA are the photographers who have earned enough points in their photo submissions to advance to the top class of this club. 

Beginner photographs are leniently judged as the photographers begin to learn the ropes of photo review. As they progress through the club they are expected to improve their photography and submit photos that can be more critically reviewed.

At the end of the review we announce the photo of the month! This is the one photo that the judge felt stood out among all the entries.

If we time permits after reviewing all the photos and announcing the monthly winner we will go back and review the photos and critiques. There are times that members want further clarification to the judges comments or to look for ideas that the judge may present. Often times the judge comments include "fixes" that can be applied in software. We can review right then how to apply the fix that the judge suggests. 

By 9:00 PM The Grand Theatre closes and we must leave the building
